Using our sites, data and API
Last Updated: October 31, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using TheAirTraffic ("the Service"), including theairtraffic.com, globe.theairtraffic.com, our feeder services and our API, you accept and agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree to these Terms of Service, please do not use the Service. TheAirTraffic is part of Ground Control (grndcntrl.net).
2. Description of Service
TheAirTraffic is a flight tracking network built on data from independent receivers ("feeders"). The Service includes:
- A live flight tracking map (globe.theairtraffic.com)
- Historical flight data, traces and replay
- Aircraft information drawn from public records
- Feeder tools, coverage maps and statistics
- An API for approved users
3. Use of Service
3.1 Permitted Use
You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
3.2 Prohibited Activities
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any laws
- Use flight data to harass, stalk or endanger anyone
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) except as described in section 3.3
- Reproduce, duplicate, or exploit any portion of the Service without written permission
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
3.3 Automated Access and the API
The data files and endpoints behind our map (for example /data/, /re-api/ and trace files) exist to run our own sites. They are not a public API. To use our data in an app, site, bot or service:
- Use our API with a key (contact us to get one)
- Credit the source: "Flight data: TheAirTraffic" with a link to theairtraffic.com, wherever our data appears
- Identify your software honestly with a user agent that names it; don't imitate a web browser or copy our sites' requests
- Don't use rotating proxies, VPNs or many IP addresses to get around rate limits or blocks
- Don't bulk-download our full feed or history without permission
We may block, rate-limit or redirect automated access that doesn't follow these rules, without notice.
4. Aircraft Data
Aircraft data comes from public ADS-B, Mode S and UAT broadcasts received by our independent feeders, MLAT calculations, and public records such as aircraft registries. It is published unfiltered and is not anonymous. We do not accept requests to block, hide or anonymize aircraft, including requests based on the FAA's LADD or PIA programs. See our Privacy Policy for how this differs from information about our users and feeders.
5. Feeders
By feeding data to TheAirTraffic, you allow us to use, combine and redistribute the aircraft data your receiver sends, including through our sites, our API and Ground Control. You can stop feeding at any time. Information about you as a feeder is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Content Ownership
All content on TheAirTraffic, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, images, software and our compiled flight data, is the property of TheAirTraffic and Ground Control or their content suppliers and is protected by copyright and intellectual property laws.
6.2 Flight Data Attribution
Any permitted use of our flight data must credit TheAirTraffic as the source, as described in section 3.3.
6.3 Third-Party Content
Some content, such as map tiles and aircraft photos, comes from third parties and remains subject to their terms. We respect intellectual property rights and expect users to do the same.
